Neglected Ideas

March 15, 1983

Two ideas which I do not find discussed enough in presently available literature:

God does not want his people to be subject to human rulers, but wants to govern them directly through his Word and Spirit.

Christians must not think of themselves as being part of the general "society" but must rather see themselves as a separate, distinct, holy, peculiar people, called apart by God so that his works may be shown through them in contrast to what is seen in the lives of other people.

These two ideas are obviously related.  Those who choose not to acknowledge human rulers as their lords will be seen to be peculiar.
