Contracts and Games

June 25, 1982

The kingdom of God and of his people is characterized by contracts (covenants, testaments) in which God and his people make promises and commitments for which they are responsible and which place obligations upon them.  When everyone lives according to these contracts, life is predictable and prosperous.  Everyone benefits.  There are no "losers".

The kingdom of Satan and his people is characterized by games (gambling, speculating) in which no promises or commitments are made, and in which nobody is responsible for the outcome or obligated to perform according to contract.  Benefits and winnings are attributed to luck, chance, etc.  Net losses exceed net winnings, which leads eventually to poverty.  When games prevail, life becomes unpredictable and chaos and misery increase.
