Some seem impressed when a reputable source says the obvious.
For their sakes, here is a recent quotation from Alan Greenspan, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, in response to a question from Senator Jack Reed regarding the future funding of Social Security:
"We can guarantee cash benefits as far out and at whatever size you like, but we cannot guarantee their purchasing power."
